Idea's+Concept and pages from the booklet

My meaning of an Idea
I think that an idea is a thought or a process that may or may not develop into something. An idea is sometimes inspired by something that already exists or could be something completely made up that nobody has ever thought of before.

A concept is the meaning behind the product that has been made.

MY CONCEPT
- Moods expressed by the use of colour and make-up

MY IDEA
- To apply make-up on a model for a catwalk to show a series of emotions through different colours
 
 
 We were all given this page first before we were given our project brief and this was a good way to get us all thinking differently and to start up a blog
 
 We then got into groups and made a mind map to generate ideas from the word 'Cycle' here we came up with different Cycles and then from this mind map gave us all a starting point on different Cycles to look into and to research. Further down my blog you will see that I have researched a variety of these different Cycles and I have explained on some why they will and will not work and some possible ideas for an outcome.
Then after we had started to think about different ideas and concepts we were issued with our project brief wich then told us exactly what we were working towards
This was attached to the project brief. It is useful to have a copy of the grading criteria because then it allows us all to know exactly what we must include in order to reach our goals and the grades that we aim for
 
 Here are my feed back and feed forward sheets that I got from my tutor to help me progress in this project. This was useful for me because I then knew what it was that I had to do in order to get a better grade
 
 
This is the feed back (after I did my presentation) from the people in my tutor group. This was helpful as it consolidated my room for improvement and any extra ideas I could include.
            This is different artists that we looked at in lesson as a starting point to inspire us. Here I have writted down different artists names and then a brief description of what I think there work is about and what they produce. I got this information from a powerpoint presentation that our tutor provided us with
 We then got give a problem solving bookelt to help us generate our ideas using different techniques. I found this booklet helpful and it was a good way of opening out my creative side and allowing me to think in different ways
                 Here shows that you can generate an idea using a  list and by brainstorming
Here is the fishbone. This is a good way to record your ideas as it keeps your thoughts organised and in order
 
I then used the fish bone idea generating technique to help solve my question 'How will I get my project completed on time?' This helped me because it allowed me to think of differen anysweres to different individual problems. I would deffinately use this idea again and maybe throughout my project if I have any other questions to solve.
 
I feel that the list idea in The Problem Solving Pocket Book would be a good idea to use at the start of my project so I know the things I need to consider and I think it will be a useful technique to use whenever I feel like I need to plan my time and the remaining factors I need to work on. The first thing I need to plan before I start my project is what I NEED to do.
 
NEEDS:
(a) What research do we need to make?
I am going to start by researching the meaning of the words 'Idea' and 'Concept' from the dictionary and then I am going to explain what they meen to me
I also need to research different types of Cycles then focuss on my chosen Cycle
I will need to research any artists or designers that will influence my work
 
 
(b) Who else will we need to involve?
I will need to involve my tutor group if for example I decide to create a questionaire or include anyone in my project
I will involve my tutors as I will need to talk my ideas through with them and get inspiration
 
 
(c) What meterials and facilities do we need?
I will need lots of ways to gather research and information to help me such as magazines, computer, book, problem solving booklet, scanner, paper and pens for drawing and generating my ideas
 
 
(d) How much time do we need?
I have 5 weeks to do this project and an extra 4 weeks where we all have time to go back and visit any chosen projects. I will probebly need this extra time if I decide to complete and make a final idea
 
 
(e) How much money do we need and where will it come from?
I have shop credit where I can purchase paper and pens from for my project but if I decide I need to buy meterials that are not sold in the shop at college then I will use my own money
 
 
(f) What else do we need to carry out this project?
First of all I need to have a clear idea and a clear concept that I can carry out and develop. I then need to produce a series of clear design ideas and explain why I like them or not and why they may or may not work. Finally I will need to then produce this final peice if that is what I decide to do and if I have time

The solar system is a cycle because the planets are constantly moving around. This is never ending. Also the shapes of planets remind me of a cycle because a shape is never ending and has a continuous line.

Clocks Cycle

                   I decided to look at numbers wich relates to my idea on 'Clocks' being a Cycle.
                   I particularly liked this video clip as i thought it was powerfull and created an impact.

 
"Clocks" is a song by British alternative rock band Coldplay. It was written by all members of the band for their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head.

I chose to look into the idea of clocks as a possible theme. The shape of a clock is a continuous shape wich reminded me of the word 'Cycle. Also the concept of time and aging is a Cycle too. I wanted to incorporate makeup into my project as that is my main interest. I am going to make a survey on how long people take to do their makeup each morning.

Heartbeat Cycle

Here is a heartbeat monitor. I personally think that this reflects the meaning of the word 'Cycle' because everybody who is alive has a heart that constantly beats and therefore it is an ongoing Cycle. The only time a heart ever stops beating is when a person is dead.

Daily routines Cycle


                           This Cycle here shows two different morning Cycles
               This Cycle here shows different stages and different things people do during a day

I think that a daily routine Cycle is an interesting Cycle to monitor because it is a Cycle that we all do and that we all take for graunted. It would be interesting to set up a camera in all the rooms that I enter during one day and film every little detail. This could be interesting as it would allow me to appreciate the things I do that I would normally do in a rush. It may also reveal things or habbits or ways of being that nobody else has seen before except for myself.
I could also record my daily Cycle in many other ways such as;

- Making a flip book of the usual things I do during a day

- Taking a series of photographs of the activities that I do during a whole day

- I could get somebody to set up secret cameras of myself during different stages of the day. This would allow me to act natural and how I normaly would act as I would not be aware of being filmed. When people realise they are being filmed they automaticaly become artifical and present themselves differently are are more careful and aware of what they say and do

- I could hold the camera and film the places I go so then it becomes my view of my routines rather than somebody looking at me and my daily routines. I could also add sound to any of the films to make it more diverse and interesting. I would then need to think; am I going to add music as the sound? Or am I going to use sounds that relate to the things I am doing such as door creakes and footsteps?

Washing Cycle

                                            
This diagrame here shows the different stages of washing and what we do with the clothes after. I think this Cycle is realy important to our everyday lifes because it is constant and everybody takes part in their own washing Cycle.  We have luckily developed a quick and effortless way of washing our clothes using the washing machine. Before this everything had to be washed by hand in a big bucket. This must have been extremely time consuming and hard work.

If I decided to do the idea of the washing cycle I could;

-  Make a massive washing machine and put it in the middle of a room and I could set it so that it washed things in reverse so I could put clean clothes in and have them come out dirty or I could put dirty clothes inside the washing machine and have it spinning the wrong way and for the whole process inside to be going backwards to break the cycle

- I could get a room with glass windows all around and I could fill each wall with washing machines facing the outside of the glass and they could all be open with clothes in and foam and water spilling out so eventualy the whole room gets full of water. This would be a realy interesting instillation and people could only view it from outside. This would make people feel at ease as it would suggest the washing machine is broken and in controll of what it does itself. I do not think I would be able to produce this instillation as I would not have enough money to buy all the washing machines and I would also need to be able to find a room that I could use.

Cycle of Abuse

Here I decided to look into the Cycle of abuse because I think it is interesting to see the reason why people are abusive. Sometimes this is not noticed and when people commit a crime it often leaves others feeling confused and upset and angry. I think it would be interesting to interview people in a prisson and find out the reasons behind why they have decided to commit an act of crime. I could also record them and re create a room that looks like a prisson and play these recordings out so that the viewers would actualyfeel like they have walked into a prisson and are collecting first hand evidence of the reasons behind the crimes.

The Menstrual Cycle

This picture here shows the insides of a womens body and a way of visualy recording this. The inside of a body is a constant Cycle because it is constantly working and blood is constantly flowing without us even noticing it

A normal cycle is around 28 days, but a variation of a few days can be quite normal and variations from cycle to cycle is also normal. The cycle starts at the first day of bleeding and lasts the day before your next bleeding.

I looked at The Menstrual Cycle as a possible idea because this is the period of time that every woman would prefere not to experience and many see it as an unpleasent time. I thought that this would be interesting to record as it is not something that is usualy shared with others.

In order to record this I could;
- Make a flip book of a calender and put a star next to each date I start my period and this could show the consistancy or the irregular pattern and Cycle of my period

- I could make lots of videos of different women's blood in the toilet and I could display this in a small room and project lots of different videos playing at different times on all of the walls of women going to the toilet and changing tampons. This would create a disturbing and shocking effect and would make people who entered this room feel like they are intruding in their personal space and it would make the viewers feel uncomfortable. I could then also record lots of womes views of being on their periods and why they do not like it and how it makes them feel and play all of them at the same time to create a dramatic effect

I then decided to use watercolour as Tracey Emin does for her work on the menstrual cycle. Here is what the projected images on the wall would look like.
                                                                         
Here I have done a quick sketch to show what I would want this idea to look like if I displayed it in a room. I doubt that I would be able to carry this idea out becuase I would need to find a room and I would need to find a series of projectors. Also I would need to find a group of people who were willing to share this private information with me and anybody who visited the instillation.
 

- I could photograph lots of different womens facial expressions when they first experience starting their period

- I could make a questionaire and ask different women wether they believe that they should have to pay for tampons or wether it is their right to get them for free



 
I then made a copy of Tracey Emins paintings ^. I found it interesting to explore the depths of colour and the different marks.
 
 
Tracey Emin also uses the idea of the Menstrual Cycle in series of her work. She uses it in a griuesome way just like my idea above. Her work is disturbing to look at as it is intermate and revealing. I find her work extremely inspiring and I love the way that she produces sketches as if they are pages out of her personal diary.

Movie clips off Youtube

I looked at 'The Ilusionist' as i love the annimation and i decided to poste this song because it incorporates lots of repetion wich links to the idea of 'Cycle'.

 
 
I looked at this film clip by Philip Glass - Koyaanisqatsi and I think that this shows an extremely good exapmple of a timelaps of natural and manmade. All of the images on here repreasents Cycle for example; the clouds moving, the people walking and the cars driving.

Money Cycle


Money is a Cycle that we all share and take part in it together. Money is passed around millions of people everyday through different situations such as; handing money over in a shop at a till, giving money to a friend or family member, paying for a taxi or a bus, eating out or buying a drink. Money is then passed back around maybe bye a shop owner whos giving change or by banks or exchanging money into euros for example. Because of money constantly being passed around to different people it is an extremely dirty Cycle. People may have dropped it on the floor in the past, put it in their mouths and on many more different surfaces. Money carries many germs and is continually passed around untill it gets destroyed if they bring out a new currency.

Cycles of Life

From looking into The Cycle of Life I became inspired by the idea of natural transformations in nature. I decided that in order to develop this initial idea I was going to explore it from a different angle so I decided to look at the artifical means of transforming ourselves. I chose to explore make-up to show how we can transform and express emotions.

The process that transforms a frog from water to land is called metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is the transformation from an egg into an adult. Frogs change from egg into an adult frog. Frogs go through four stages in their life: egg, tadpole, metamorph (froglet), and adult. This metamorphosis is also known as the frog's life cycle.
 
 
 
The Cycle of a Plant
 
Here is a video I found on youtube of a timelaps flower. I think it is amazing to speed up this process because normaly the growth of a flower is at such a slow speed that nobody realy appreciates or gets to see it develop. We usually only notice it from its origianl state to its final development.
 
 
 
A cycle is a pattern that repeats. There are a lot of cycles within the Earth system. You see cycles every day. In fact, the day is a cycle.
A day is the time it takes the Earth to make one complete spin on its axis. This cycle repeats about every 24 hours. In most parts of the world, each day is a cycle of light and darkness. Half of the day we face the sun. It is daytime then. The other half of the day we do not. It is nighttime then.
Below is a diagram of the cycle of a day. Four things happen during this cycle. Daytime, sunset, nighttime, and sunrise all happen during a day. In the diagram these four things are connected in a circle. They form a continuous loop. That is another way to think about cycles. Cycles are loops. They have no beginning. They have no ending. However, the parts of a cycle do happen in a certain order. For example, daytime comes before sunset. Sunset comes before nighttime. Nighttime comes before sunrise. Sunrise comes before daytime.
Cycles repeat over different lengths of time. Some cycles are very short. They do not take much time to repeat. Other cycles are very long. They take a lot of time to repeat. As mentioned above, the cycle of a day takes about 24 hours to complete. Another cycle you may know takes a whole year before it repeats. It is the cycle of the seasons. Seasons are patterns of weather changes. Many places in the world have four seasons. They have a hot and dry summer. Then it cools during the autumn. Then it gets cold during the winter. Then it gets warm and wet in the spring. After spring it is summer again. Below is a diagram of a cycle of seasons.
Living things go through cycles too. These cycles are called life cycles. Living things are born, live, then die. The length of the life cycle is different for each living thing. For example, some insects live for only a few days, while some trees live for hundreds of years.
Cycles also happen in each of Earth's spheres. For example, water changes among three physical forms, or phases. Water moves from Earth's surface to the air and back again as it changes form. Water can change from a liquid to a gas. When it does, it moves from Earth's surface to the air. Water can also change from a gas to a liquid or a solid. Liquid and solid water become too heavy to stay in the air. They fall from the air to Earth's surface. This movement of water is a repeating pattern. It is called the water cycle. Temperature drives the water cycle. Changes in temperature cause water to change its form. Temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius cause liquid water to freeze into a solid. Solid water is called ice. At temperatures between 0 C and 100 C, ice melts to form liquid water. Temperatures above 100 C cause liquid water to become a gas. The gas is called water vapor.
Many cycles on Earth are related to each other. Related cycles connect Earth's spheres. For example, the cycle of seasons is often related to the life cycle of plants. These related cycles connect Earth's living things with its air and water. As seasons change, so do the temperature and amount of water available to a plant. Temperature and the amount of water available affect plant growth. That is how the life cycle of plants is connected to the cycle of seasons. Below is a diagram of this connection.
